Visualizing Radiation Data in the Netherlands: HCS's Collaboration with RIVM Using Open Source Grafana

Abstract:

This presentation dives into the successful collaboration between RIVM and HCS in developing an innovative solution for visualizing radiation data across the Netherlands using the open-source platform Grafana. The session will cover the gathering and consolidation of user requirements, participation in discussions, and expert advice on data visualization. Additionally, it will showcase the setup of Grafana visualizations and share insights into the effective teamwork, the compelling features of Grafana, and the valuable lessons learned throughout the process. Join us to discover how this collaboration has set new benchmarks in data visualization and user engagement.

Speaker:

Ho Yeung is currently working at RIVM, focusing on the development of an observability platform designed to streamline the collection and processing of measurement data. His work involves integrating diverse measurement devices into a system, automating data validation processes, and leading the visualization of data using Grafana. He collaborate with end-users and technical teams to ensure effective data presentation and decision-making, configuring Grafana in a Kubernetes environment.

Marnix de Ruiter is the project coordinator at the RIVM for the National Radioactivity Monitoring Network (NMR) and for the ICT facilities of the emergency organization Straling. Marnix is responsible for the operationality of the monitoring network and the ICT facilities (models, decision support systems, receiving measurement data from the EU) for the emergency organization.
